Ireland’s Æ MAK will release new mixtape ‘Berlin’ on April 21st.
The Irish artist – real name Aoife McCann – spent time in the German city, and its atmosphere of freedom helped to alter her creative pathways. Merging left-field pop with electronics, Æ MAK is a vehicle for the songs that emerged from this time in her life.
New mixtape ‘Berlin’ is out this Spring, a dose of art-pop that is electrifying in its vision. The project is led by ‘Shimmer Boy’, a divine single that feels akin to those early Grimes cuts or even the new U.S. Girls record.
Æ MAK comments…
“I headed over to Berlin for a couple of months late 2021 and this was the first song I made there. I didn’t have a mic that week so I just recorded the vocals and harmonica with the laptop mic and leaned into that nostalgic indie sound. The lyrics are made up of a stream of texts between me and Shimmer Boy himself. The start of a bit of magic. We both live in Berlin now.”
A song of lust and the initial blossoming of romance, it comes with a hazy video. The Irish artist adds:
“The video is really a snapshot of my new life in Berlin, pals and new love and chaos and feeling lost/overwhelmed.”
Tune in now.
Catch Æ MAK at London’s Shacklewell Arms on May 3rd.
