British folk songwriter Roo Panes has shared his latest single ‘Our Time’, an elegant and meditative exploration of life and the many big questions it poses along the way.
Finding Panes in a pensive mood as he calmly ponders life’s various stages and the profound feelings that arrive with them, with ‘Our Time’ he appears to be welcoming the newfound clarity of his situation – “Dust in the air from making changes, let every clear morning turn the pages” – while also pulling into focus the interesting concept of “forever” and what that entails as he muses on love and the pursuit of happiness; “What shall we do with our lifetime? Something we can do forever”.
Opening with a flourish of delicately ornate guitars, the track leaves a beautiful lasting impression in its three and a half short minutes. Slowly building throughout, as Panes searches for answers, fittingly the song’s instrumentation intimately weaves around him and the subject, kept moving along thanks to an enchanting rhythm and the addition of warm cello and subtle percussion. Perhaps above all, ‘Our Time’ is carried by Roo’s carefully understated double-tracked vocals as he delivers a hypnotic melody that is surely destined to remain with the listener long after the track comes to end, while he declares “It’s our time now”.
‘Our Time’ is taken from Roo Panes’ forthcoming album The Summer Isles, out 24th March 2023.
