The shortlist for the Ivor Novello's new Rising Star Award has been unveiled – with Irish electronic artist lullahush, aka Daniel McIntyre, named among the five nominees. Each artist featured on the shortlist has also secured a spot on a year-long programme with Apple Music.

As part of the scheme, lullahush will be mentored by composer David Arnold, famed for scoring fives James Bond films, Little Britain, Sherlock, Godzilla and Independence Day – earning a Grammy Award for the latter.

Other mentors on the programme include Chic's Nile Rodgers, who has been paired up with singer-songwriter Amahla.

"The Ivors, in my view, offer amongst the most prestigious accolades that a songwriter can receive anywhere in the world," Rodgers noted in a statement. "To be able to get this acknowledgement at such an early stage in your career will be an important catalyst for this incredibly diverse range of new talent.

"All five of the Rising Star nominees being celebrated by The Ivors Academy and Apple Music have been selected on the strength of their creative talent, and I can't wait to see them grow and give the world what I hope will be many of the great songs of the future."

According to the Ivors Academy's website, the new award will help "discover, support, and accelerate the careers of the most promising music creators in the UK and Ireland."

Other nominees for the Rising Star Award include Carmel Smickersgill, Griff and Mysie. The winner will be announced on September 2.

lullahush has already built up a reputation on these shores for his role in art-pop project Æ MAK, as well as his own 2019 releases 'Terracotta Slow Dance', 'If Spring Had A Spare Room I'd Rent It With You' and 'Elysium'.
