Making a name for herself as she blurs stories of modern-day Irish women with the age-old magic of folk, Ailbhe Reddy's brand of spellbinding songwriting continues to dazzle and delight in the wake of two successful EPs.

New single "Shame" sees Reddy breaking ground, pulsing with a synth-led energy she's previously only hinted at as it tackles the thorny subject of mental health stigma. Upping the tempo serves to express the conflicting, frustrating emotions tied up with "Shame"'s delicate subject matter, with Reddy explaining that she "wanted to write a song about depression you could kinda dance to".

Having achieved this sonic goal, the singer/songwriter elaborates on the track's lyrical content: "Shame is the word that sums up so much of what holds people back and keeps people down. [It's] a pre-cursor for my own experience of struggling with depression and feeling afraid to talk about it."

Reddy's unique folk-pop sound returns to London with a live show at The Social on 4 September.

"Shame" is out 17 August.
