At just 18 years old, Mia Wilks is an authentic musician and storyteller emerging from the London music scene.
Born in Woolwich and rooted in South East London, Mia grew up surrounded by a rich and diverse culture with musical influences from across the world.
With no extended family living in London, she spent many hours on long car journeys to visit relatives, soundtracked by 90s R&B and soul. Artists such as Faith Evans, Michael Jackson, Mary J. Blige, Maxwell, and Aaliyah became the backdrop to her childhood, shaping her love for honest, emotional music.
Her sound is 90s-inspired acoustic pop, blending soul influences with stripped-back arrangements, storytelling, and an emotionally honest vocal style. Mia is also a passionate live performer. Her stripped-back acoustic sets focus on storytelling, creating a close connection with her audience.
From an early age, Mia began writing and recording songs on an iPad in her bedroom, inspired by fellow bedroom musician Steve Lacy and his DIY approach to music-making.
At the age of eight, Mia experienced a moment that shaped her journey. A music teacher told her she couldn’t sing and that a music career was unlikely. That moment became a turning point. Rather than discouraging her, it strengthened her determination to pursue music and prove that voice wrong.
Today, Mia channels that experience into songwriting centred on resilience, determination, and finding your place in the world. She writes for anyone who has ever felt like they weren’t enough — creating music that carries both nostalgia and courage.
In a world often divided, Mia Wilks is using music to bring people together and build a community that believes anything is possible.
